Archer's breathing seemed to improve a little today. He did not need the backup mode on the ventilator very often. The NAVA ventilator setting was decreased again. Since he has been back on the NAVA setup, the settings have decreased from 2.5 to 2.3. The staff would like to see this number around 1.5 before they try out a nasal ventilation system.
Archer's blood gas test showed that he needed sodium bicarbonate. The calorie fortifier he has been taking typically leads to having too much acid in the body.
He may also need another blood transfusion soon, though a recent test showed that he has been making red blood cells on his own. It has been quite awhile since he has needed more blood due to the staff's blood draws.
Archer dropped back to 2 pounds 8 ounces this evening.
